2014 Letter
My young friends,
I commend you for your accomplishment this day. I have most pleasant memories as a child of climbing to the tops of mountains with my father. Together we climbed to the summit of Mount Olympus, Twin Peaks, Mount Nebo, Mount Timpanogos, and to the King's Peak, among others. I cherish those memories.
There's something about climbing to a mountain summit which gives us not only wonderful memories but also encourages us to keep moving upward, even as we encounter hardships along the way.
We can relate our upward climb to our pathways in live. Scripturally, foreseeing the needs or His children, a loving Heavenly Father has placed directions and rescuers along our way. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to make safe passage possible and visible so that we might return to our heavenly home.
The Savior described our perilous journey when he said:
"Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate. and broad is the way, which leadeth to destruction, and many there be who go in thereat;
"Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it" (3 Nephi 14:13-14).
You and I can help travelers who are stumbling along rough pathways in their journey. I promise each of you, as you follow inspired direction in this, the true Church of Jesus Christ, that you - and those you assist - can be delivered safely to our heavenly home.
Again congratulations on obtaining your goal in this great On Target adventure.
Sincerely,
Henry B. Eyring
